9. Exercise…For Real

I’m talking heart pounding, pushing your limits, flexing your muscles kind of exercise. Replace less intense sessions of exercise with shorter more intense bursts.

High intensity interval training or HIIT workouts will give you all the benefits in half the time. Plus, when you do it right, you’ll get that elusive runner’s high. A flood of feel good endorphins.

Listen ladies, yoga can be anything you want it to be. It’s a total chameleon. I’ve walked into a class in one state of mind and walked out on another planet. That’s called getting ‘yoga stoned’.

Yoga can be your meditation and your sport. It can be your strength training and your flexibility work. And if you let it happen, yoga can be your practice.

Practice quieting the mind and drawing into yourself. Practice finding your edge and pushing your limits. Practice patience and endurance. Practice honoring your body and soul.

That just got really deep. But trust me, yoga is that good.

If you have tried it before and it wasn’t your thing, I’m begging you to find another teacher. In the right class-with the right teacher, yoga can be the most challenging activity you do for your body and mind at the same time.

Clean your shit up. Seriously girl, a cluttered apartment, house, car, desk, office, etc. is a cluttered mind. Hire a professional organizer if it’s too much for you to handle. Everything should have a place and a purpose.

Keeping things clean and organized boosts happiness and your sense of control over your environment.

When everything has a place, you’ll waste less time looking for things. This in turn gives you more time to relax or to spend with loved ones.

An organized environment tends to be cleaner and healthier. Which increases your overall sense of well being.

I love this quote from Ms. Oprah! It’s so true. The way you treat and respect yourself teaches other people how they can interact and treat you. You set the rules for any relationship….even the relationship that you have with yourself.

I’m about to teach y’all what it means to be a V.I.P. When you start treating yourself as such–so will everyone else.

What it means to be a V.I.P.

  • You handle your shit. If you have health problems or financial problems you deal with them head on. You reach out when you can’t do it on your own. 
  • You make sure you take care of yourself before everyone else in your life.
  • Your health and happiness are your top priorities.
  • You don’t put crap in or on your body.
  • You are well-groomed and manicured.
  • You deserve and allow yourself the best (within your current financial ability)
  • You face your past and handle your emotional baggage. You’re not afraid to talk to an expert.

Many people, women especially, have a hard time with this concept. They feel guilty for putting themselves before their family, friends, or work. Some woman believe it’s utterly impossible to take care of their own needs. Some people even think it’s selfish. 

I say, that’s bullshit! 

If you don’t take care of yourself–you can’t take care of others. If you always put your boyfriend, partner, or husband’s needs before your own–you’ll end up exhausted and resentful. If you put your health and fitness second to your kid’s needs–you’re teaching your children to do and expect the same dynamic in their future relationships.

Show yourself some respect. Honor your body. Nurture your health. And start treating yourself like a gawd damn V.I.P. Feel it from the inside out!
